Okay, so here’s my story about trying to buy an Iraqi passport online.
It all started when I got this wild idea to get a second passport. Why not, right? I figured having an extra one couldn’t hurt, especially for travel. After some digging around, I decided to go for an Iraqi passport. Sounded interesting, and I was up for a challenge.
First thing I did was to check what documents you need. I found out that you need an ID that’s been issued within the last 20 years. Mine was older than that, so I had to get an original copy of the Electronic Family Registration, certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Iraq. No idea how to do that! Plus, an original and a color photocopy of an Iraqi Citizenship Certificate. I definitely didn’t have that.

Then, there’s the whole online appointment thing. I saw that there’s a way to book an appointment online for passport stuff. Supposedly, there is a website, but I never found it. I tried to fill out some forms online, but I wasn’t even sure they were the right ones. Honestly, it felt like I was going in circles.
Next, I learned about this new citizenship law in Iraq, number 26 from 2006, Article 10. It says that Iraqis can have dual nationality, meaning you can have another passport along with your Iraqi one. I thought, “Great! At least that part is clear.”
Getting the Application Form
- I tried finding the Iraqi passport application form online.
- It seemed like the easiest way to get it was to download it from somewhere “trusted.”
- But how do you know what’s trusted online these days?
I also found out that an Iraqi passport doesn’t let you travel to many places without a visa. You still need visas for most countries. So, that was a bit of a letdown. I mean, what’s the point of a second passport if you still need visas all the time?
Anyway, after spending hours on this, I realized it was way more complicated than I thought. All those documents, the online appointment, the forms… it was all a big mess. I mean, I consider myself pretty good at figuring things out online, but this was something else. In the end, I just gave up. It wasn’t worth the headache. Maybe I’ll try again some other time, or maybe I’ll just stick with my current passport. Who knows?
