Man, I wanted a Tuvalu ID card. I saw on a forum that someone got one, and I thought, “Why not?” So I started digging.
First, I learned that Tuvalu is this tiny island nation in the Pacific. Sounds exotic, right? Then I found out that you can’t just use an ID card to get into Tuvalu, you need a valid passport. I read this on some official-looking website, so I guess it’s true.
I found some government page mentioning that if you’re abroad, you can apply for an ID card or passport at a Finnish mission, and the application must be submitted in person. It seemed that there was no way I could get my ID card successfully.

Here’s where it got tricky:
- Passport Needed: Tuvalu requires a passport for entry, not just an ID card.
- Proof of Citizenship: To get a Tuvalu passport, I’d need proof of Tuvalu citizenship. Which, of course, I didn’t have.
- In-Person Application: It looked like I’d have to apply for a passport or ID card in person, probably somewhere far away.
I also read somewhere that the drinking age in Tuvalu is 18. Cool, but not really helpful for getting an ID card. There was also this thing about enrolling in some Smart Traveler Enrollment Program if I decided to go there, but that was just a side note.
Then there was this bit about getting a fake ID card, but that’s a whole different can of worms. Not going there.
So, after all this digging, I realized that getting a Tuvalu ID card was way more complicated than I thought. It’s not like ordering something online. It involves passports, citizenship, and probably a trip to some distant country.
In the end, I decided it wasn’t worth the hassle. I’ll just stick to my regular ID. But hey, it was an interesting little adventure learning about Tuvalu and all these procedures.
My conclusion
Well, Tuvalu ID card isn’t gonna work out. Seems like a pretty cool place, but I am definitely not cut out to be a citizen there, haha. But now I know how to get into Tuvalu with a passport, just in case I really want to visit those serene beaches they talked about.
