Order Bhutan ID Card Online(Easy Guide for Applicants)

Okay, here is my experience sharing about applying for a Bhutan ID card online:

So, I recently had to get a new Bhutan ID card, and let me tell you, the process was… interesting. I decided to go the online route, figuring it would be easier. Ha! Little did I know what I was getting myself into.

Getting Started

First, I went to the Department of Civil Registration and Census website. Their website mentioned something about “Citizen Services Portal”, so I figured that’s where I needed to be. I found this service on their website and started to prepare the documents needed.

Gathering Documents

Now, this is where things got a bit tricky. I needed a digital copy of my passport. If you’re under 18, you can use a birth certificate, but you also need a legal guardian present. That’s not all, you also need a recent digital passport-style photo. Luckily, I had all of these handy.

The Application Process

I started filling in the online forms. It wasn’t super intuitive, I have to say. There were some fields that I wasn’t sure about. There’s a toll-free number 1199, and an email, g2c@*. But I thought I could handle it myself, such a silly thought at that time. They also had this thing about sharing feedback to improve their services, which I definitely plan to do after this whole ordeal.

More Services

I noticed they also handle online birth and death registrations and even something called a “Special Residence Permit.” I guess that’s useful for some folks. I also saw some tags related to the Bhutanese Census, Family Tree, and their Civil Registration System. Looks like they’re trying to digitize everything. Great!

Other Government Websites

I stumbled upon the Department of Immigration website while I was at it. They have some stuff about pre-registration, uploading documents, and tracking applications. I didn’t need any of that, but it was good to know it’s there. There was also something called the “Bhutan Computer Incident Response Team,” which sounds pretty serious, and something about a “Bhutan Vaccine System.” Lots of government stuff, obviously.

For Tourists?

Apparently, they also issue e-Permits for tourists, especially from Bangladesh. I guess that makes sense. The site also mentioned that you need a copy of your passport or voter ID card, or a birth certificate if you’re under 18 and from India. Passports need to be valid for at least six months, I saw. Good for tourists to know these details before visiting.

Finally Done!

After a few hiccups and a lot of head-scratching, I finally submitted my application. It took way longer than I expected, to be honest. I’m still waiting to hear back, but I’m hoping for the best. Wish me luck!

So, that’s my story. It was quite an adventure. If you’re planning to apply for a Bhutan ID card online, be prepared for a bit of a bumpy ride. It’s doable, but definitely not as smooth as I’d hoped. Maybe call that 1199 number to ask for help, I think that will save you some time.
