So, I wanted to get a Ukrainian ID card. Not gonna lie, it seemed like a pain at first, but I figured it out. First off, I had to find out what documents I needed. Turns out, it’s pretty standard stuff. I grabbed my old passport, a couple of passport photos, and my birth certificate.
Next, I had to find a place to actually apply for this thing. I heard about these centers that handle ID card stuff. I did some digging and found one that wasn’t too far from me. I prepared all documents. To make things easier, I decided to sign up for an appointment online. It’s some electronic queue system they have. Saved me a bunch of time, I bet.
Registered, and went to the center at my scheduled time. The place was pretty organized, not what I expected. I handed over my documents to the person at the desk. They checked everything, asked me a few questions, and took my photo. They also took my fingerprints. It felt all official and stuff.

- Went to the center
- Handed in my documents
- Got my photo taken
- Fingerprints scanned
After that, they gave me a receipt and told me the ID card would be ready in a few weeks. Apparently, there was no rush option, so I just had to wait. I heard they might embed some electronic signature thingy into the card, but I wasn’t too worried about that. Also, some friends told me about some other thing called “Diia” that has e-ID, but it seemed not necessary for me.
A few weeks later, I got a notification that my card was ready. Went back to the center, showed them my receipt, and they handed me my brand new Ukrainian ID card. It looked pretty cool, I guess. All shiny and new.
Getting the ID card
Honestly, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. The online appointment thing was a lifesaver. The center was efficient, and the staff was helpful. Now I have my Ukrainian ID card, and I can finally stop using my old passport for everything. If you’re thinking about getting one, just do it. It’s not that scary.
