Today, I’m gonna share my experience of getting a Tuvalu passport. It was a real pain in the butt, let me tell you.
First thing I did was hit up the internet to find out what I needed to do. Turns out, you gotta be a Tuvaluan citizen to get one of these things, either by birth or naturalization. No problem, I thought, I’ll just fill out some forms and be on my way. Boy, was I wrong.
I tracked down the passport application form online. It wasn’t easy to find, I’ll tell ya that. Once I had it, I started filling it out, making sure all my personal details were right. Then, I had to gather all the required documents. That was a whole other headache.

I found out that all visitors must hold valid visas before entering Tuvalu, except Taiwanese and Schengen citizens. And Tuvalu Issues visas on arrival at the point of entry for a maximum one month visit. Then, visitors are required to hold valid 6 months’ passports as a bare minimum.
Here’s a list of what I needed:
- My birth certificate
- Proof that I’m a Tuvaluan citizen
- A couple of passport photos
- Some other documents that I can’t even remember now
Getting all this stuff together took forever. I had to make calls, visit offices, and wait in line for hours. It was a real test of my patience, I’ll tell you that.
After I finally had everything, I went to submit my application. I thought I was in the clear, but nope. They told me there was a processing fee. Fine, I paid it. Then they said it would take a few weeks for my application to be processed. Great, more waiting.
Eventually, I got a letter saying my application was approved. Finally! I went to pick up my brand-new Tuvalu passport. It felt good to have it in my hands after all that trouble. Now I can travel visa-free to like 82 countries or something. That’s pretty cool, I guess.
So yeah, that’s my story of getting a Tuvalu passport. It was a long and annoying process, but I got it done. If any of you are thinking of doing the same, be prepared for a lot of paperwork and waiting. It’s not for the faint of heart!
