Okay, so, I had to get a driver’s license in Aruba. Let me tell you, it was an adventure. First off, I started digging around to figure out what I needed.

Turns out, if you’re planning to drive around those beautiful Aruban roads, a regular driver’s license from your home country works, but I also heard that it might be different if your license isn’t in the Roman alphabet. That got me thinking, do I need something more? I then looked into getting an International Driving Permit (IDP). I learned that it’s valid in Aruba and lots of other countries too, which sounded pretty good to me.

I started filling out the application for the IDP. It seemed simple enough. They ask for all the usual stuff – name, address, you know, the basics. I learned that they process it really fast and sometimes the documents are available almost instantly, they even offer an electronic IDP which is super convenient.

Then I got to thinking about driving in Aruba. I mean, it’s the Caribbean! I began to read a bunch of guides and stuff online. I learned a few things, like the roads aren’t always perfect, so you gotta watch out, I guess. I also read some general tips about renting cars. And one big thing: you gotta be at least 25 years old to rent a car there. Good thing I’m past that, whew!

I found out that you can get an IDP from different places, not just in Aruba. Since I’m from the US, I could have gotten it from my local AAA. But I chose to do it online, which seemed way easier. Paid around $49 for it.
