Want to Order Kiribati driving license? Heres What You Need to Know.

Alright, folks, let me tell you about my little adventure trying to get a driver’s license in Kiribati. It wasn’t exactly a walk in the park, but hey, it’s all part of the experience, right?

First off, I headed to the Land Transport Authority, or KLTA as the locals call it. Apparently, this is the place where all the magic happens when it comes to driver’s licenses. It’s somewhere in the Ministry of Information, Communication – finding the place was a bit of a treasure hunt itself.

First Time Application

• Got myself a provisional driving license form. It’s just 1.50 AUD, so no biggie there.
• Filled out the form. Pretty standard stuff, you know, name, address, the usual.
• Took it back to the Licensing Office, which is apparently also called the Highway Authority.

Now, I thought I was all set, but turns out, there’s more to it. I had to prove I’ve had a license before. So, I went back to the Highway Authority to check my records. Thankfully, I had an old license from back in the day, so that saved me some trouble.

Foreign License

For those of you coming in with a foreign license, it’s a different story. You gotta bring your license to the Traffic Unit to get a Conversion of Foreign Driving License form. Fill that out, submit it, and then… well, more waiting.

Honestly, the whole process was a bit confusing. There was a lot of back and forth, and the information online wasn’t super clear. But I persisted, and finally, after a few weeks, I got my Kiribati driver’s license! It was a bit of a hassle, but now I can legally drive around these beautiful islands.
