Okay, so I needed to get a new passport because mine was about to expire. I’m in Guyana, so I figured I’d share my experience getting a Guyana passport. It wasn’t too bad, but there were a few things I had to do.

First, I found out that I needed a Guyana Passport Application Form. That’s basically where you start the whole thing. I guess it’s pretty standard for any passport application process.

Then, I did some digging and discovered that there are different types of passports and eligibility requirements. Plus, I needed to gather a bunch of documents and there are costs involved. It’s not free, obviously.

Making the Appointment

I found out that the Consulate of Guyana has an appointment system. So, I went ahead and made an appointment online. It was pretty straightforward – I just picked a service and clicked “Make an appointment.” They also let you reschedule if you already have one, which is handy.

Gathering Documents and Head to the office

I made sure I had all the required documents ready. Once I got to the office, which is in Georgetown, the staff was helpful. I think their phone number is (592)226-1606. Double check that number just in case.

The office was open from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Thursday. And on Fridays, they close a bit earlier, at 3:30 pm.

I filled out the application form, handed over my documents, and paid the fee. It took a while. Then I waited for a long time and I got it eventually.

  • Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months for international travel.
  • Get the Guyana Passport Application Form.
  • Make an appointment online through the Consulate of Guyana’s system.
  • Gather all the necessary documents.
  • Head to the office in Georgetown during their opening hours.
  • Be prepared to pay a fee.

Overall, it wasn’t a terrible experience. Just make sure you have all your documents in order and you’re good to go. Also, it’s better to apply for a new one if your old passport is expired or has less than six months of validity.
