Looking to Buy Israeli ID Card? Heres Your Simple Guide

Listen up, y’all, let’s talk about gettin’ yourself an Israeli ID card, or whatever they call it, a “Teudat Zehut.” Sounds fancy, but it ain’t nothin’ but a piece of plastic, like a credit card, but it says who you are, see?

First things first, you gotta be somebody. I mean, you can’t just walk in off the street and say, “Hey, give me one of them cards!” You gotta be a real Israeli, born there or got the papers to prove it. They say you gotta be part of the Jewish nation, whatever that means. Been that way since back in the forties, they tell me.

Now, if you’re already one of them Israelis, and you’re sixteen or older, you gotta have one of these cards. It’s the law, they say. Carry it with you all the time, they say. Don’t know why, seems like a hassle to me, but that’s what they want.

So, how do you get one? Well, that’s where it gets tricky. They got this “Misrad Hapnim,” somethin’ like a government office, I reckon. You gotta go there, they say. And you gotta bring stuff, like your old ID if you got one. If you lost it, well, you’re outta luck, gotta pay for a new one, that’s for sure.

And get this, they take your picture, like when you get your driver’s license, but they also do somethin’ called “biometrics.” Sounds scary, like somethin’ out of a science fiction movie. They take your fingerprints, I heard. Makes me shiver just thinkin’ about it.

  • Gettin’ a New ID: Bring your old ID. If it’s gone, pay up for a new one. Then you gotta “activate” it. They send you a text message, like a secret code, and then you’re good to go, I guess.
  • Activating that Thing: You can call ’em on the phone, give ’em your number, and they’ll turn it on for ya. Or you can go to one of them machines, like an ATM, but for ID cards. Sounds complicated to me.
  • Doing it Online: Some folks say you can do some stuff online, on their website. But I ain’t too good with them computers, so I wouldn’t know. And some young whippersnappers say you can even take your picture online, but I don’t trust that, no sir.

Now, I heard some folks sayin’ you can get this done faster if you’re in the army. Wearin’ your uniform, they say, gets you to the front of the line. Makes sense, I guess, those soldiers gotta be important.

And another thing, if you’re tryin’ to buy somethin’ online, like a pass to visit Israel, they gonna ask for your ID number. Or your passport number. Or somethin’ called an “SSN.” Don’t know what that is, but sounds important. Don’t give ’em your SSN, though, that’s private stuff, they say. Just give ’em your passport number, that should be enough.

Be Careful Out There: Some folks are tryin’ to trick you, sellin’ fake IDs, or givin’ you bad information. Heard some people sayin’ this guide ain’t no good, full of lies. You gotta be careful, don’t trust just anybody.

So there you have it, a little bit about gettin’ yourself an Israeli ID card. It ain’t easy, that’s for sure, but it’s somethin’ you gotta do, if you wanna be official. Just follow the rules, bring your papers, and don’t let nobody fool ya. And remember, if you look young, they might ask for your ID even if you’re old enough to be a grandma, like me!

One last thing, that number on the card, that “Mispar Zehut,” it’s got nine numbers, they say. Don’t know why, seems like a lot to me, but that’s how they do it. It’s important, so keep it safe.
