Alright, so you wanna get yourself an Afghan passport, huh? Well, listen up, it ain’t rocket science, but it ain’t like pickin’ apples neither. I’ll tell ya what I know, and you listen good, ya hear?

First off, you gotta figure out where you are. Are you stuck in Afghanistan? Or maybe you made it out to one of them fancy places like Germany or Australia? Makes a big difference, see? If you’re in Afghanistan, well, things are a bit more…rustic. You gotta go to somethin’ called the Passport Department, sounds important, right? Take your papers, you know, the ones that say who you are and where you come from. They call it a Taskera, I think.

Now, listen close, this part’s important. They gotta match up your papers with what the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has on file. If somethin’s fishy, you’re outta luck. And you gotta go there yourself, no sendin’ your cousin or nothin’. They wanna see your face, make sure you ain’t tryin’ to pull a fast one.

If you’re lucky enough to be in Germany, say Bayern or Baden Wurttemberg, they got special rules for you. Don’t ask me why, them Germans are always makin’ things complicated. You gotta read the instructions real careful, they’ll tell you how to make an appointment and what to bring. Probably more papers, I tell ya, always more papers.

  • If you in Australia, it’s a whole different story. I don’t know much about that, you better ask someone who knows.
  • And if you’re in Dubai, well, they got their own way of doin’ things too. More instructions, more forms, more waitin’ around. It’s always waitin’ around, ain’t it?

Now, about the passport itself, it ain’t like them old-timey things your grandpappy used to have. These days, they got these fancy “Machine-Readable” passports. Sounds high-tech, right? Means they can scan it with a machine, I guess. And they gotta take your picture and your fingerprints too. For kids under fifteen, it’s a bit cheaper, I hear, and for them big shot government folks and army colonels, they might have a different process. Don’t ask me why, it’s just how they do things.

And how much does it cost? Well, that depends. In Afghanistan, they say it’s somethin’ like 5500 Afghanis, whatever that is. Probably changes all the time, prices ain’t never stable, are they? And in other places, it could be different. You gotta pay the fees, or you ain’t gettin’ no passport, that’s for sure.

Another thing, how long does it take? Well, if you’re in the US and gettin’ one of them American passports, they say it takes six to eight weeks. But for an Afghan one? Who knows? Could be faster, could be slower. Depends on how busy they are, how many folks are tryin’ to leave, you know? And remember, if you’re a US citizen trying to go to Afghanistan, you need your US passport AND an Afghan visa. Don’t go forgettin’ that, or they’ll send you right back where you came from.

Look, the Afghan passport, it ain’t the most powerful one in the world. They say it lets you go to about 71 countries without a visa. Better than nothin’, I guess. But it’s your passport, it says you’re from Afghanistan, and that’s somethin’.

So, that’s the long and short of it. Get your papers in order, figure out where you gotta go, pay your fees, and wait. And pray a little, that never hurts. Good luck to ya, you’re gonna need it.
