Okay, here’s my experience about getting a Bahraini ID card online.
So, I needed to get a Bahraini ID card, and let me tell you, it was a bit of a journey. I started out like anyone would, just browsing around to see what the deal was. I found out that the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) is the one that handles this stuff. Apparently, they made it possible to do a lot of the ID card stuff online through their National Portal.
First, I tried to get a feel for what services were even offered. I saw a bunch of stuff, like getting an ID card for domestic workers, which wasn’t me, and for kids under 10, also not me. They also mentioned something called a “Fast-Track Service” that costs an extra 10 BHD, but I wasn’t in that much of a hurry.

I dug a little deeper and found out that this whole ID card thing is a big deal for Bahrain. They want to make it easier for people to use e-government services. It seemed like they were really pushing for a more digital future, which is cool.
I’m not a GCC resident or an investor, so some of the options didn’t apply to me. But I kept looking, and I finally found the section for regular folks who just want to renew their ID card. It seemed pretty straightforward, but there were some requirements. So I started collecting all the documents and information I needed to fill out the application.
Once I had everything, I jumped onto the National Portal and started filling out the forms. It wasn’t too bad, just basic information and some uploads of documents. I had to make sure I met all the specific requirements, or the system wouldn’t let me proceed. It was a bit of a pain to get everything in the right format, but I managed.
After submitting my application, I waited. And waited. They said it would take some time to process, so I tried to be patient. I checked the status online every now and then, just to see if anything was happening.
- Gather all necessary documents.
- Go to the National Portal website.
- Fill out the online application form.
- Upload the required documents in the correct format.
- Submit the application.
- Wait for processing.
- Check the application status online.
Finally, after what felt like forever, I got a notification that my ID card was ready! I was so relieved. I went to collect the new card, and that was it. I was officially done.
Overall, it wasn’t the smoothest process, but I got there in the end. It’s definitely convenient to be able to do most of it online, but there’s still room for improvement. I guess that’s just how it goes with these things sometimes.
