I recently tried to get myself a driving license here in the Malvinas Islands. I heard from someone that I might need to show them my driver’s license from back home, if I have one. I do have one, and also some other documents. Anyway, I thought I’d share my whole experience here, just in case anyone else is trying to figure this out too.
First off, I walked into the local driving school, figuring they’d know all the ins and outs of getting a license. They told me the whole process is managed by the JPJ, which is like the road transport agency here. It’s pretty straightforward if you go through a driving school apparently. They handle everything from the lessons to booking your driving test.
- Gathered all my documents. I had my US driver’s license with me, and I made sure to grab a couple of other identification papers just in case.
- Headed down to what I thought was the right office. Turns out, there wasn’t a BMV here, but I found out that I needed to go through the local authority that deals with transport and licensing.
- Got a bunch of forms from them. I remember seeing something about a medical form, which I thought was a bit much, but hey, rules are rules.
- Filled out the forms. Honestly, it was a bit of a headache. There were so many sections to complete, and I double-checked everything to make sure I didn’t mess anything up.
- Submitted everything and waited. They told me there’s no written test for a temporary license, which was a relief. But I did wonder about a learner’s permit.
After submitting, there was a bit of a waiting game. They processed my application, and I just had to sit tight. Eventually, they got back to me to schedule the driving test. This was it – the final step.
I took the driving test, which was a bit nerve-wracking, not going to lie. But I passed! It felt like a huge weight off my shoulders. I guess all those driving lessons paid off. After passing, they issued me a temporary driver’s license. It’s not the full license yet, but it’s a start.
So, yeah, that’s my story of getting a driving license in the Malvinas. It’s a bit of a process, but if you follow the steps and stay patient, you’ll get there. Just remember to bring all your documents, fill out those forms carefully, and take a deep breath during the driving test. You’ve got this!
