So, the other day, I needed to get a Bangladesh ID card. Let me tell you, it wasn’t as straightforward as I thought it would be. I started by doing some research online. I figured there had to be a way to do this without too much hassle, right?
First, I stumbled upon this website called myGov – seems like it’s the main hub for all things government-related in Bangladesh. They talked a lot about something called an NID card, which I gathered was the national ID card. I found a helpline number, 105, and an email address, but I decided to see if I could figure things out myself before contacting them.
I dug a little deeper and found out that every citizen in Bangladesh gets just one NID card, issued by the Bangladesh Election Commission. It sounded pretty official and important. There were a bunch of warnings about waiting and such, but I was determined to get through it.

Applying Online
- Filled out the application: I went to the website, filled in all my personal details, and hoped I didn’t mess anything up. I don’t know how to apply for a new voter ID card online. So I spent a lot of time to study this.
- Appointment time: Then, I found out you had to book an appointment before going to the High Commission. They had an online portal for that, thankfully.
- Uploaded documents: I scanned and uploaded all the required documents, which was a bit of a pain, to be honest. I just hoped I had everything they needed. I needed to submit them to my nearest office. But I don’t know where is it. I sent an email to info@*, and luckily I got an answer that told me the address of the nearest office.
After submitting everything, it was a waiting game. There was a lot of “please wait” messages, which was frustrating. I tried to find information on undistributed NID cards, but it was all very confusing. I found out that after the application is submitted, I can book an appointment from the same portal.
Finally, I got a notification that my application was processed, and I could pick up my card. What a relief! It took longer than I expected, but I finally got my Bangladesh ID card. All in all, it was a bit of a bureaucratic maze, but I made it through. It also told me how to get a Smart NID card in Bangladesh online. I can apply online with my personal information. Now I know that applying for a new NID card online is a very simple and short process.
If you need to get one, be prepared for a bit of a process, but it’s definitely doable. Just make sure you have all your documents ready and be patient with the system. You’ll get there eventually!
