Okay, so I wanted to share my experience with getting a Singapore ID card online. It wasn’t as straightforward as I thought it would be, but I finally got it done.
First off, I went on the ICA website. That’s the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, the people who handle all the official stuff for Singapore. Found the section about ID cards and started digging in.
Turns out, you can’t do the whole thing online. You can start the process there, but you gotta go in person to finish it up. The online part is basically just filling out the application form. I got all my info in there, you know, the usual – name, address, all that jazz. There’s also this part where you gotta upload a photo.

- Photo Time
- The photo thing was a bit of a hassle. They’ve got very strict rules about what kind of photo you can use. It has to be a certain size, 35mm by 45mm, and your face has to be all centered and clear. No smiling, no glasses, no funny business.
- I tried taking the photo myself, but it was a pain to get it right. So, I ended up using this online tool, IDPhotoDIY. It helped me crop the photo to the right size and all. Saved me a bunch of time.
- Once I got the photo sorted, I uploaded it to the ICA website and finished filling out the rest of the application. Then I had to schedule an appointment to go to the ICA building in person.
Appointment Day
When the day of the appointment came, I went to the ICA building. I brought my Student Identification Card, also known as the Ez-Link Card, just like they asked me to. The appointment was mainly for them to take my biometrics – fingerprints and all that. It was pretty quick, actually.
The Wait
After the appointment, I just had to wait. They said it would take about three working days for the ID card to be ready. I got an email when it was done, which was pretty efficient. Then I just had to go back to the ICA building to pick it up.
And that’s it.
It was a bit of back and forth, but finally got my Singapore ID card. Not a bad experience, and the process is kind of smooth. Just need to remember that you will need to go to the ICA building to finish the application. I hope my story will help others with their Singapore ID Card applications.
