I planned to get a Guyana driving license the other day, so I went to do some research online. It turns out that I have to download some driver manuals and the Guyana Road Traffic Code to study first. After studying, I also found out that I needed to complete the FIRST AID BOOK and LEARNER DRIVERS’ THEORETICAL PROGRAM.

Then I searched for where to apply for this thing. It seems that the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) will be the sole agency for this. I found out that this is part of a collaboration with the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to standardize the Driver’s Licence system.

I was still a little confused. It seemed that foreigners need a Foreign Driver’s Permit along with their valid Driver’s License to operate a vehicle in Guyana. But I’m a local, so I skipped this step and went straight to the application.

I learned that to apply for a new Driver’s License, I had to make sure all the documents were submitted before the process could start. So, I went to prepare the required documents. After a few days, I gathered all the documents and went to the GRA to apply.

I’ve heard of a tool called Licence Checker that can check the progress of my application. It requires me to insert my TIN and the last five digits of the transaction number on my lodgement receipt to check. But I haven’t received my lodgement receipt yet, so I haven’t tried this tool.

After I submitted my application, I just waited. Eventually, I got my driving license.
