Order Sint Maarten ID Card Online: A Quick and Easy Guide for Everyone

Alright, so I’ve been needing to get a new ID card for a while now, specifically one for Sint Maarten. I finally decided to get it done, and let me tell you, it was quite the process. I thought I’d share my experience here for anyone else who might need to do the same thing.

First off, I had to gather all my documents. I mean everything had to be digital, which is a bit of a pain, but okay. I went online and saw that the Government of Sint Maarten’s website had some info on the process. And yeah, they provide numerous services to citizens, businesses and visitors, like applying for a Business License or the ability to pay for applicable services online, I had to make sure I had clear scans of my old ID, my birth certificate, and a recent passport-sized photo. I spent a good few hours just scanning and double-checking everything was clear and readable.

Next, I found out that payment had to be done online via debit or credit card. So, I prepared my card details beforehand. “PAYMENT FOR THIS SERVICE MUST BE DONE ONLINE VIA DEBIT/CREDIT CARD,” it said on the website. Once you have obtained all of your digital documents (Step 1). It made sense, but I still double-checked to make sure I was on the official government site.

The website mentioned that as of July 25, 2023, there were some updates. I guess, “The Cabinet of the Governor of Sint Maarten hereby informs the public that as of July 25, 2023”. They didn’t really specify what, but I figured it was better to be updated than not, you know?

I also wanted to know about getting a Foreigner ID, just in case. The process seemed straightforward enough. “What is the process for applying for a Foreigner ID in Sint Maarten? 1. Eligibility: To obtain a Foreigner ID in Sint Maarten,” said one of the pages. It listed all the eligibility criteria and the documents required. I bookmarked it, just in case.

Submitting the Application

With all my documents ready and payment sorted, I went ahead and submitted my application online. They can be used to view to access benefits or services provided by government authorities, banks or other companies, for mobile payments, etc.,” said one article. It sounded pretty cool, having a digital ID. I also read that all passengers arriving or departing from Sint Maarten need to complete an Embarkation Disembarkation Card (ED card). “In accordance with article 15a of the Admission Decree all passengers arriving to or departing from Sint Maarten are required to complete an Embarkation Disembarkation Card (ED card). The completion of this form, the Sint Maarten Entry Form, fulfills that obligation,” another document explained. And for Dutch citizens, there’s a separate process for applying for a Dutch passport or identity card. “Applying for a Dutch passport or identity card If you have Dutch citizenship,” the site noted.

Finally Got It!

After a few weeks, I finally got an email saying my ID card was ready. I had to go to their office to pick it up. The process was pretty smooth. They checked my details, took my biometrics, and handed me my new ID card. It felt good to finally have it in my hands.
