Need to Buy American Samoa Passport? Heres Your Easy How-To

Okay, so, I tried to get an American Samoa passport, and let me tell you, it was a bit of a journey. First off, I needed to figure out what exactly I needed. Turns out, there are a couple of options, like an American Samoa Certificate of Identity or a U.S. passport but with proof that you live in American Samoa. I went with the U.S. passport route.

So, I dug around a little bit and found out that the post office in Pago Pago is where you can get passport stuff sorted. That’s also where you find a Passport Acceptance Facility. You know, they have applications for a new passport, one for minors, or even if you lost your old one and need a replacement.

Next, I had to fill out the Samoan Passport/DoI Application Form. It was pretty straightforward, just the usual stuff like your name, address, and all that jazz. I made sure to double-check everything because you don’t want any mistakes on these things, right?

The Process

• Gathered Documents: I collected all the documents I needed. You know, proof of identity, proof of US citizenship, and all that.
• Filled Out the Application: Like I said, it was pretty straightforward, I filled out all the sections of the form.
• Took a Passport Photo: Got a new passport photo taken. Make sure you follow the guidelines, or they won’t accept it!
• Went to the Post Office: Headed down to the post office in Pago Pago and submitted my application.
• Paid the Fee: They wanted to charge me a fee, so I paid it. It wasn’t too bad.

After doing some research, I found that there’s only one passport office in Pago Pago, and it seemed like it’s mainly for renewals. Since I was applying for a new one, I had to check for other ways. I heard that if you’re not a US National of American Samoa, you can get a free ninety-day Visitor’s Permit when you arrive in Samoa. But that wasn’t what I was after.

I also found an email address, ApiaConsular@*, and a phone number, +685 21631 ext 2222, to book an appointment if you need to contact them directly. I thought it was a good idea to write them an email and see how it goes. I haven’t received a response yet, but I’m hopeful.
