Alright, so the other day I tried to get myself a Solomon Islands ID card. Let me tell you, it wasn’t as straightforward as I thought it would be.
First off, I did some digging online. I found out that the Solomon Islands is this group of islands in the South Pacific, with over 900 islands and about 600,000 people living there. That’s a lot of islands!
Documents and Stuff
I learned that to get an ID, you usually need documents like a passport. I also stumbled upon something about a driver’s license. Apparently, you can use a Solomon Islands driver’s license as ID, but it has to be current or expired within the last two years. Also, it can’t be canceled. Good to know, right?

The Application Process
So, I started with the application. I found a form online, and it seemed like the usual stuff—name, address, the basics. But here’s the kicker: I found out that you can only drive on your overseas license in the Solomon Islands for 4 months. After that, you need a local one.
Then there’s this thing called a TIN—a Tax Identification Number. It’s a six-digit number that you need if you’re importing or exporting stuff regularly. I guess it’s important for customs, especially if you’re using their system called ASYCUDA World.
Getting There and Other Tidbits
I also looked into how to get to the Solomon Islands. They have two main airports, and the big one, Honiara International Airport, is near the capital. There are flights from places like Brisbane, Port Vila, Nadi, and Sydney.
In the end, I managed to get through the application process. It wasn’t easy, and there were a few times I got confused. But hey, I got my ID card. If any of you are thinking of doing the same, be prepared for a bit of a bureaucratic adventure. It’s doable, but you gotta have patience.
Hope this helps anyone trying to get an ID in the Solomon Islands. It’s a journey, that’s for sure!
