Okay, so, I wanted to share my experience with getting a Uruguayan driver’s license.
Let me tell you, it was a bit of a journey.
First off, I did some digging online. I figured, “Hey, there’s gotta be a way to do this online, right?” Turns out, there is! You can actually start the process from your couch. I found a few places that seemed legit, and they basically act as a middleman to help you through the process.
So I filled out their forms. It wasn’t too bad, pretty standard stuff. You know, name, address, that kind of thing. I did have to give them a copy of my current driver’s license from back home. They also needed a picture of my signature – just me scribbling my name on a piece of paper, easy peasy. And of course, a photo. I just snapped a selfie with my phone, making sure it looked halfway decent.
Then came the waiting game. But hey, it was way faster than I thought. Within just a few days, I got an email saying that things were moving along. I have to give them some credit, they were pretty quick to respond to my emails. I had a couple of questions, and they got back to me the same day, which was pretty cool.
- Filled out the application form online.
- Sent them a copy of my valid driver’s license.
- Snapped a picture of my signature.
- Took a color ID photo with my phone.
After that, they gave me the address of the local office in Uruguay where I had to go to finish up. When I got there, I had to show them my passport and the temporary residency permit that I have. They took my fingerprints, which felt a little official, but it was all part of the deal. I have to wait a little longer while they process everything. They are going to send me an email to come back to pick up the license. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly from here!
Overall, I’d say it wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be. But we’ll see how it goes when I actually get my hands on that license. I’ll keep you guys posted!
