Well, let me tell you, gettin’ an ID card in them Falkland Islands, it ain’t like pickin’ up taters at the market. It’s a whole thing, ya know? First off, you gotta have a passport, a good one, that will last you the whole time you’re there.
They say all people coming over need that passport. Makes sense, I reckon. Gotta know who’s comin’ and goin’, right? And if you’re stayin’ on the land, not just hoppin’ off a boat for a bit, you better have some insurance. They call it travel insurance. Covers you if you get sick or somethin’. And you gotta show ’em you got a way back home – a ticket, they call it.
Need Money in Your Pocket
And listen to this, you gotta have money! Enough to last ya while you’re there. They wanna make sure you ain’t gonna be beggin’ on the streets, I guess. So, how much money is that? Well, that’s a good question. It probably depends on how long you’re stayin’ and what you’re doin’.
But these days, folks ain’t carryin’ around a bunch of cash, are they? They got these plastic cards. Like a credit card, but different. You put money on ’em before you go. They call ’em travel cards. Sounds fancy, don’t it?
I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout these cards. They say it’s easier. You just load it up with that Falkland Islands money – pounds, they call ’em – and you’re good to go. No need to worry ’bout changin’ your money when you get there.
How to Get One of Them Cards
Now, how do you get one of these travel cards? Well, there’s a bunch of ’em out there. Seems like everyone’s got one. You gotta pick the right one, though. Some are better than others, I hear. And they are mainly for people from United States. So if you are from there, you are lucky, I guess.
One fella was talkin’ ’bout a card called “BigPay”. Sounds kinda important, don’t it? He said you gotta get their app. What’s an app? It’s like a little program on your phone. You know, them fancy phones everyone’s got now. You can get it from the store, they say. The App Store or the Google Play Store. Sounds like a trip to town, but it’s all on your phone. Technology, I tell ya!
Another thing, there is a SIM card. I don’t know what it is exactly. But it is something about phone. Maybe it is something that can make you call people. But I heard people saying that if you already have a Sure SIM card, you can access 4G. I don’t know what 4G is, maybe something about a strong wind? Anyway, it sounds good to me. If you have a good SIM card, you are able to call your families!
Gettin’ Back to the ID Card
But back to that ID card. So, you got your passport, your insurance, your return ticket, and your money or your fancy travel card. Now what?
Well, you gotta go to the right place to get that ID. I ain’t sure exactly where that is. Probably some government building. You know, the kind with long lines and lots of papers to fill out.
- Passport
- Insurance
- Return ticket
- Money or travel card
It’s all very complicated, ain’t it? But I guess that’s just the way things are. You gotta have all your ducks in a row before you go gallivantin’ off to some faraway place like the Falkland Islands. It sure is different than buyin’ that ID card in your own country.
They say the cheapest way to fly back from them Falkland Islands is ’bout 1 pound. That sounds cheap to me! But I bet it’s a long trip, though. And probably not very comfortable. But hey, if you’re on a budget, that’s the way to go, I reckon.
So, there you have it. That’s all I know ’bout gettin’ an ID card in the Falkland Islands. It’s a lot of rigmarole, but if you wanna go there, you gotta do it. Just remember what I told ya: passport, insurance, return ticket, money. And maybe one of them fancy travel cards. And be prepared for some paperwork! Good luck, and don’t forget to send me a postcard! Hope you can get your ID card there!
