If you ain’t got a license yet, you gotta get a learner’s permit first. Gotta have it for three whole months before you can get the real one. Seems like a long time to me. When I was young, you just hopped in the car and learned as you went. But I guess times have changed. Gotta do things by the book now. You need a new driver’s license? You can get a learner driver’s license first. I say it is better for you to get a learner’s one first.

But it’s probably best to get a Ghanaian driver’s license if you’re gonna be here for a long time. Just to be on the safe side. They say you need an international driver’s permit. What is that? Better to get the Ghana one.

I heard they got a place on 1 Jawaharlal Nehru Road you can go to. Don’t ask me where that is. But if you need a license, you can go there. They will tell you what you need.

Here is the most important thing. When you get your license, you need to drive safe. Here is a list for you:

• Don’t drink and drive.
• Always look where you are going.
• Be nice to other drivers.

Getting a driver’s license in Ghana seems like a lot of work. But I guess that’s just the way things are these days. Everything’s got to be official and documented.
