Well, let me tell you, gettin’ that Guyana ID card, it ain’t as easy as pie. You gotta jump through some hoops, I tell ya what. First off, you gotta be old enough. Not a youngin’. If you 18 years old or more, you can try. Younger than that? Forget about it! You also need a picture of yourself, a valid photo identification, like they say. One that shows your face clear as day.
Then, you gotta find one of them there forms. You go to the bank, they call it GBTI, any of their branches, and ask for an application form. Fill out that form. Every last bit of it. Name, date of birth, you know the drill. And they say it will have a unique identification number, that digital ID cards. Fancy stuff! And then, you gotta talk to some fella at the bank. They call him a credit officer. He’ll ask you all sorts of questions, so be ready.
And you want one of them fancy credit cards? They got Gold and Classic VISA, they say it’s accepted worldwide. Sounds important, huh? You can get those at the GBTI bank too. That’s a whole other thing though. Them cards have a number on the back. Three little numbers, they call it C.V.V. or C.V.C, used for buyin’ stuff online, I reckon. Keep that number safe, don’t go tellin’ everyone. You can use them at them ATM machines and them point-of-sale things they got in stores.
But back to that ID card. Now, they say you can only get it during certain times. When they havin’ one of them registration things or when there is an election. Makes no sense to me, but that’s what they say. GECOM, that’s who you gotta watch for. They are the ones who do the ID card. They have a website, something called * and a Facebook, whatever that is. They say you can find more information there. They call it “Guyana Elections Commission” on Facebook. So you best keep your eyes peeled for when they’re doin’ their thing.
Here is what you gotta do, plain and simple:
- Be 18 years or older. No kids allowed for this.
- Get a picture ID, one with your face on it.
- Go to a GBTI bank and get an application form.
- Fill out that form, every single line.
- Talk to the credit officer at the bank.
- Wait for them GECOM folks to do their registration or election thing.
- Check that GECOM website or that Facebook thingy.
They say that this new ID card ain’t gonna replace the old one. It’s just gonna be another one, like a helper. They call it complement, I think. They were talkin’ about it in 2023, so it’s comin’ soon, I guess. If you a foreigner, it is another story. You gotta go to the immigration office. That’s where they deal with folks from other places. Tags they use are GuyanaRegistration and Guyana Id Card Application Form. That is what they told me. Sounds like a lot of work just to get a little card, don’t it? But that is the way of the world.
Now, why do you need this Guyana ID card? Well, that’s a good question. It proves you are who you say you are. Helps you do all sorts of things, I suppose. Open a bank account maybe, or vote in them elections. It is like your ticket to doin’ things proper like. Without it, you are just walkin’ around with no proof of nothin’. So it is important, even if it’s a pain to get.
Remember that ID Card in Guyana, it is a big deal. This whole thing, it ain’t easy. Lots of steps, lots of waitin’. But if you want that card, you gotta follow the rules. Just be patient, and keep your eyes on that GECOM. They hold the key, those folks do. And don’t forget that bank, GBTI, they are in on it too. Just follow what I said, and you’ll get that card eventually. It might take a while, but you will get it. Good luck to you, you will need it! Don’t be a fool, pay attention to those election cycles. That is your chance!
