This Bermuda ID card, you know, it’s something else. My neighbor, she got one. Says it makes things easier. I don’t know about all that, but she sure seems happy with it. She went to that Bermuda place, said it was easy to get there, easier than going to the county fair, even. She said there’s this thing called a SIM card, makes your phone work over there. I don’t rightly know how it works but she told me you gotta buy one, or you can get something called an “eSIM” that’s even better and cheaper, she said. Keeps you from paying extra on your phone bill, whatever that means.
Now, she said they got these Bermuda ID cards at the airport, or some stores. I guess it’s like when you buy a fishing license. Just go in, show ’em some papers, and they give you a card. She also told me about some “eSIM for Bermuda” that’s really cheap, and you can buy it before you even get there. She kept going on about some companies called Airalo and Holafly, said they sell these eSIM things for cheap, like 9.50 USD, whatever that is. Sounds like a good deal to me, even though I don’t know what it all means.
There’s also this thing called a CAPS ID Number. Sounds important. She says it’s special, just for you, like your own fingerprint, but a number. You gotta write it down on some papers you give to the customs people. Don’t ask me who the customs people are, but I reckon they’re important if you need a special number for them. I reckon it’s just some paperwork. Probably got to fill out a form, maybe two. Who knows with these government things, they sure do love their forms.

- This CAPS ID Number is important, remember that.
- You need it for the customs people.
- It’s like your own secret code, but it’s a number.
My neighbor, she’s a sailor, well, her son is a sailor, or something like that. He works on one of those big boats. She said he needs a special card, a Seaman ID Card. Something about the law, or the boat people wanting it. I guess it’s like needing a driver’s license to drive a car. Makes sense, I suppose. You can’t just go sailing around the world without the right papers. These ship managers, they can get these cards. Guess they have to keep things organized, those sailors. They called it something fancy, Bermuda Maritime STCW, whatever that is. They just love using big words, don’t they?
This neighbor, she went on and on, said this Seaman ID is needed ’cause of where the boat goes. Different places, different rules, I guess. Like how you need different fishing bait for different fish. Makes sense, I suppose. She mentioned something about Bermuda Registered Ships and Maritime Shipping. I don’t know much about ships, but I reckon it’s all important for those sailor folks.
She was showing me pictures on her phone, they had all these nice things you can buy in Bermuda. She said you can even buy good office supplies there, and some award-winning machines, whatever that is. Must be some fancy stuff. I reckon if you’re getting an ID card, you might as well do some shopping, right? She said they got nice furniture too, for every style. Now, I like a good rocking chair, maybe they got some of those. If you’re going all the way to Bermuda, might as well get yourself something nice, right?
Now, there’s another thing about these ID cards. My neighbor’s nephew, he’s in the Navy. She said his ID card has something called a “non-PO” on it. She said it means he’s not a Petty Officer, whatever that is. Sounds like some military thing, some rank or another. They have all these fancy titles in the military. I guess it’s important to know who’s who, especially on those big ships. I can’t remember all these things. But if you need an ID, you need an ID I guess.
This whole Bermuda ID card thing, it’s a lot to take in. But I reckon if you’re going there, you best get one. Seems like it makes things easier, like having a good pair of shoes for walking. And don’t forget about that Bermuda SIM card, or that eSIM thing, if you want your phone to work. Better to be prepared, I always say.
- Get a Bermuda ID card if you’re going there.
- Don’t forget your phone! Get a SIM card or eSIM.
- That CAPS ID Number is important, write it down.
- Sailors need that Seaman ID Card.
- They got nice things to buy in Bermuda, maybe a rocking chair.
I still don’t understand all of it but I guess if you need to get to Bermuda, you gotta have that card. Makes sense I suppose, you need a ticket to get on the bus, so you need a card to get to Bermuda. You need your ID and maybe a new SIM card for your phone, if you have a fancy phone. Then you can buy all the things you need there, like furniture, office supplies or a rocking chair, just like my neighbor said. And if you are a sailor you gotta have a special card. It’s just a lot of things to remember. But if I can remember, you can too.
